David's legacy is the quality of his recovery.  He is often mentioned and/or quoted in the La Grange fellowship.

Carol, I am sorry for your loss. Just saw this. Was so many years ago. I still remember everything.  Cara was my first love. 

I meet David little over year ago. In AA.  I was a mess. David took me under his wing. Had me to his house and we would go over Big Book. He went out of his way to help a stranger. I miss him and I pray for all his family.

Rest in peace Brother. You will be missed by your friends at Shiloh and many others.

My deepest condolences and prayers to Carole and all of David’s family and friends. He was truly one of the most caring and compassionate individuals  I have ever known. It is difficult for me to find the right words to describe how much of an impact he had on my life as well as the lives of countless others, especially in recovery. I can however say that his passing has created a tremendous vacancy in my heart. I pray for his continued guidance from above and that I may strive to be more like him in his unwavering humility, kindness and acceptance of all.

David was such an inspiration to me. He always seemed to know just the right thing to say at the right time. I will always remember the big bear hugs he always liked to give and him reminding me to "Do the deal." Even though I only met David a little over three years ago it felt like I had known him for a life time. I will miss him dearly and my heart goes out to his family. 

David Ray Mesker "got it" and wanted so much for ALL of us to "get it".  I am his daughter and cannot thank everyone enough for these incredible testimonies to his remarkable character.  He was a rare and beautiful person. I know for sure that if love could have saved him, he would have lived. Maybe forever. 

David was blessed with the ability to make you feel how truly happy he was to see or hear from you.  He was instrumental in my recovery and a true friend.  I'll miss his smile, voice and giant hugs.   I'm a better person having known him.   I'll be forever grateful to his family for sharing him.  


We are sorry for your loss. I truly believe that it is just a goodbye until we meet again. David was a true friend, mentor, and wonderful guide. His interest and concern for others will never be forgotten and something to strive for in my own life  one day at a time. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful person and human being.

I first and foremost want to offer my gratitude to Carol as David’s beloved wife. You graciously shared your husband the gentle giant with us. David gave so much in service to our divinely inspired fellowship. Secondly I want to offer my heart and soul felt condolences to Carol and Neil as well as the entire family. David had a heart as big as his stature. His kindness, encouragement, and genuine nature were so meaningful to my recovery as well as countless others. We have shared so many heart rendering stories of David this week at our meetings. He was nothing less than an outstanding example of recovery and of living life on life’s terms with grace and dignity. 

His love for Carol, Neil, his family, and all of us is immortal.

I have never met another man like David. The humility, generosity and warmth that he exuded was a blessing to so many. He set the example of how to be a human. It is a standard to which began I can only aspire. Once you’ve been graced with his friendship you never forget it. I won’t. Thank you David, for so much. 

We were co workers who had a lot in common. David was a leader and a positive to others. Carol, sorry for your loss.

David was an inspiration to a great number of people. The positive impact he had on so  many people and families in Oldham County  is immeasurable . I do not want to even think about what would have happened to me without his mentorship. I darn sure would not have my health, family or be the man I am today without him. So many of us wanted what he had found, and boy did he help inspire us to  find it. He will never be replaced. We can only strive to pay it forward. David has eternal serenity now. I am sad, but so grateful to have known the man. I already miss him and can't wait to see him again.

The big smile, and the powerful hug that was coming, followed by a “Man! It is so good to see you today!” will be what I feel walking into every meeting I’ll go to from now on. I will miss the real thing, but I’m glad that I’ll feel that love he freely gave me and others. Because of him I’ll feel that every day for the rest of my life. I hadn’t  felt anything for a long time when I first met him, and he helped show me it was ok to feel again. David was much more to me than a friend & a Grand-Sponsor... he was a daily inspiration that if I did what was suggested I too could live a life of joy as he and many others had come to know. It is a privilege that I got to experience his strength & hope. I now get to memorialize him every day by doing what he taught me... to carry the message. It is an honor that I got to Trudge the Road of Happy Destiny with him. 

Carole & Neil, I am truly sorry for your loss. Although we will all miss him dearly, It brings me joy knowing that because of what he did for thousands of others, he will live in our hearts forever.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. David was the most influential man in my life. He gave me hope when I had no hope. He loved me until I could love myself. It was because of his love for me that I am the man that I am today. My greatest loss from my move to Elizabethtown was my daily relationship with him. His love will forever impact myself, the ones I serve, and countless other lives that he touched. I look forward to the day to feel his big embrace again in Paradise!

Carole, thinking of you during this difficult time.  May you find comfort in remembering the good times you and David had.  Asking God to keep his arms around you and his family in the days and months ahead.

He was so important in my life and the lives of many others, he has created a huge hole in many hearts.

David was one of the most selfless men I have ever known and he truly saved my life in more ways than I could have ever imagined. He went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and like I was not alone in this world when I needed that the most.  David worked with me and tried to help me the best way he knew how all the way up until the end. Moving forward, I hope I can honor his memory by taking the suggestions he has given me and apply them to my life every day. If we could all strive to be just a little more like David by putting others before ourselves, I just know this world could be a much better place. I am eternally grateful and honored to have known such a kind, beautiful soul and for the experience, strength, and hope that he shared with me.

This is in praise of our friend David, who gave and expected nothing in return.  Lisa and I are both in awe of the love that he gave to those who struggle with demons in their life.  I miss his hugs and greetings that he bestowed upon everyone.  David had the quality of a soul that attracts so many and his sharing of experiences always had a humorous kick that made a strong point to all who listened.  David will be in our hearts forever.  He's a special one and now in God's Grace.  He always was.

David was always available to anyone who wanted to change their life. He would greet each person with a genuine welcome that made them feel accepted as they were. David personally helped more people through individual interaction than anyone I have ever known.

I feel very honored to have had the opportunity to trudge the road with my very dear friend.  I cannot express how much he has meant to me.   

David never met a stranger in the fellowship.  He was one of the people that drew me to this way of life...I wanted what he had.  He made me feel welcome, and it had been a long time since I had felt welcome anywhere.  David taught me so much by the way he lived and by the honest and caring way that he shared.  He taught me the importance of remembering the names of all the people we meet along the way.  I know that we will all miss our good good friend, David!

Carole, Neil and family, I cannot begin to express my thoughts and sincere condolences. David was an exceptional man. He made such a huge impact in the lives of so many.

He was always there to lend a sympathetic ear or share his experience, strength and hope.  He was quick to introduce the newcomer, and to make sure that they felt comfortable. He was the heart and soul of our Sunday group.  I can only hope that the legacy that he left behind, will be carried out by the many he has helped.

His memory will be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
We will all miss him and his warm hugs. He spoke often of his family and was very proud of his Son.  Carole, he always referred to you as a Saint. We have all gained a special guardian angel.

It is truely a sad day for the Lagrange recovery family. We will miss our dear fellow, David but always remember how his hand was always reaching out to share the message of hope. To Carol and his family you have been and will continue to be in my prayers.  What a wonderful guardian angel you have gained.

Carole and family, as you know, David Mesker left behind an incredible legacy of helping others such that, for me, set the example of how one might become grateful enough and inspired by faith to carry the message forward and help somebody else. I personally was at such a place of despair and uncertainty when, at my very first “meeting” David Mesker took me under his wing and gave me his phone number and my first sense of hope in a very long time. He always made me, (and countless others), feel like my recovery was the most important thing in the world. He was available at any reasonable hour to take my phone call, and on any given day, meet me in a church parking lot that we might get together with “the” fellowship. I witnessed David bring life and hope to a room full of his friends night after night. His dedication and contribution will be remembered for generations to come.

Carole, I am so sorry for your loss. David continually shared how supportive you were, which considering the amount of time he spent on the phone and at meetings, is an amazing act of Love, courage and devotion (Let’s not forget stamina). I’m convinced that without you, there would have been no him. 

Neal, I was the guy who’s wrong address you came to in a work capacity. We were both very puzzled as to how you might have ended up at my home 20 miles from your establishment in search of locating and towing the exact same vehicle sitting in my garage. Stepping out the door and seeing “Mesker Towing and Recovery” on your truck only added to the mystique. My exclamation of “That’s my sponsor!” Was followed immediately by your, “No, That’s my DAD!” I know I walked away convinced that either an incredible spiritual coincidence had occurred or that “Power Greater Than Myself” your dad successfully introduced me to, was truly keeping a watchful eye.

Thank you to David and his family for getting the chance to know him. I was one of the many sisters in the fellowship. He always made me feel welcome. I helped with dishes and in the kitchen after meetings. He said that's what he did early on too. He also said it is important work. I'll never forget him. 

David came to me like a light in complete darkness. He saved my life when I was at my lowest. I had lost all hope in myself and others. I was ready to cash in. I went to him and asked him to be my sponsor. He gave that wonderful smile and a big hug and said yes. From that moment my life changed. He taught me to be a good Father, Son, Friend, Brother, Husband, and child of God. He will forever live in my heart and spirit. He was like a Father to me.  I never had a good Father figure in my life. David devoted his life helping others. He never said no to anything. I want to help others just as David helped us. That way his spirit will live on forever. I have so many wonderful  Brothers and Sisters I met through David. I'm so GRATEFUL that I was a part of his life. He would always give me a play by play of how the evening was going to unfold. He would tell what Carol was fixing for supper or what Grammy was up to. He would talk about what Neal was doing.   He loved his Family very much! I want to express my condolences to Carol, Neal , Family, friends, and others that David's light touched in their life. You all will forever be in my thoughts and prayers.  Thank you David for everything! and as David would say " Love you Buddy"

David never forgot a name. It was important to him to make others feel heard and seen in his presence. He was especially gracious to newcomers. 
I am so glad to have known him. 

What a blessing to have such a wonderful man, show me the way to a personal relationship with God. To have trust and faith in Gods plan. David defined gratitude, love and compassion for others. He was a reflection of what it meant to live in the solution provided by the AA program and our fellowship. 
He will be truly missed but never forgotten!
