Frank George Harkins Jr., 79, passed away on February 7, 2025, in LaGrange, Kentucky. Born on April 1, 1945, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Frank lived a life filled with dedication to family, service to his country, and a deep passion for sports.
Frank proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1967 before embarking on a career in federal government services, where he worked for over 30 years. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Frank found great joy in his faith and community.
A loving husband of 41 years to Angela Feldman-Harkins and a dedicated father to Becky Little, Aaron Harkins, and Sarah Strotman (AJ Strotman), Frank was the number one fan of his children, always supporting their dreams and goals. He was also a cherished grandfather to Haley Moran, Jessica Peery-Evans (Wayne Evans), Molly Little, Kayleanna Harkins, Makenzie Harkins, Alexander Harkins, and Hadley Strotman. His love extended to his great-granddaughters Harlo Evans and Lucy Evans. Frank is also survived by his brother Paul Harkins and will be deeply missed by extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis George Harkins Sr. and Beatrice Oliveira Harkins, as well as his beloved daughter Charlotte Harkins.
Frank had an undeniable passion for sports—especially baseball—which he played for over 50 years. Whether coaching his children’s teams or cheering on his favorite teams from the stands, he brought enthusiasm and encouragement to every game. He also loved horse racing and playing cards with friends. An excellent baseball player himself, Frank’s competitive spirit was matched only by his love for sharing the game with others.
Beyond sports, Frank found joy in cooking—especially preparing his mother’s Portuguese recipes—and gardening. He spent countless hours outdoors soaking up the sun by the pool or embracing winter by sledding and building snowmen with family. His sense of humor brightened every gathering, making him a friend to all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home (706 W Jefferson St., LaGrange, KY 40031), with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Additional visitation will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church (502 N 5th Ave., LaGrange, KY 40031), with Air Force Honors at 9:50 AM. A funeral service will follow at the church at 10:00 AM.
Frank’s legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support for those around him will live on through the many lives he touched. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
