Rehab in Pewee Valley, Kentucky at the grand age of 95. She was born in
Banning, California on December 28,1922. She was a strong, independent, and
complicated woman. She defined herself by much more than the roles others
saw her in; of mother, grandmother, and wife. She was smart as a whip, honest,
fair, and liberal to the core. A Southern California party girl. She spoke her mind.
Her career was in the nursing profession, one of two options given to her by her
parents when they told her she couldn't be an actress. Boy did that piss her off!
Her first option was teaching, but she disliked children so she chose option
number two. She didn't care much for sick people either, but always believed in
doing a job well. She shone in her profession as an RN as she advanced to
administrative levels.
She met the love of her life, our dad Earl, at an evening Life Drawing Class
in Los Angeles. He was one of those “arty types” that she was warned about.
They were married within six weeks. They had three girls and moved about
California from LA to Fresno to Pacifica with RCA before relocating to Louisville
with GE in the mid sixties. She raised her daughters to find careers and be
independent. Earl was her biggest fan. He kept her laughing. He adored her and
encouraged her as she embraced Julia Child's French Cooking. That enhanced
her greatest passions; entertaining and throwing parties. Her gourmet feasts
were so good that guests would take photos of them. Her recipe: great food,
lots of friends and alcohol, loud music, and not enough chairs!
We are especially thankful to the staff at Friendship H&R for their devoted
care of our mom and us, during the last 5 years of her long life.
She is predeceased by her parents Wilson Rothrock and Katherine Louise
Stone; husband Earl Patton, to whom she was married for 57 years; and her
sister Mary Louise Clemens (Kenneth).
She is survived by her brother Wilson Stone ( Jeanette); daughters Holly
Patton, Deane Patton ( Phil Wakeman ), and Megan Patton; grandchildren
Philip Wakeman ( Amy ) and Cydne Shull, and great grandchildren Emma and
Stella Wakeman and Asta Jackson.
We like to think that perhaps somewhere in the great beyond, Earl and
Isabel can be spotted dancing to Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra on a packed
dance floor at the Hollywood Palladium.
A private memorial will feature her favorite party recipes and plenty of martinis.
Memorial gifts can be made to Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky.
