John was born on November 26, 1942, in Louisville, KY, to Joseph and Virgina Hill. His warm presence and generous spirit were a blessing to all who knew him throughout his 82 years of a life well-lived.
John attended Most Blessed Sacrament grade school, DeSales High School and earned a mechanical engineering degree from University of Louisville Speed School. As the Owner of Glenn’s Commercial Service for many decades, he had the opportunity to create many lasting relationships and work with some of the finest people in the industry. His intelligence and kind-hearted nature made him a respected figure in his profession.
In retirement he became an avid golfer, was a member of Perry Park Resort, and a Florida snowbird, all with his partner Shirley Caudill by his side. He was committed to regular exercise, healthy eating, and had a passion for recreating his mother’s recipes. He was also a devout UofL Cards fan and a horse racing enthusiast. He believed deeply in his Catholic faith and immensely enjoyed his time as a member of Transfiguration of our Lord in Perry Park, and Immaculate Conception in LaGrange.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Patricia Dodge and Jean VanDyke, and his love Shirley.
Remaining to honor his life are his children, Barbi Haddow (Tim) and Dr. John Hill, Jr., his beloved grandchildren Tyler Haddow, Alanna Haddow and Mackenzie Hill, his siblings Carol Walker and Jeff Hill, many nieces & nephews, his former wife Janice & her family, the family of Shirley Caudill, and many close friends.
John approached every day with a heart full of love for his family, a mind ready to tackle any challenge and a willingness to help others. We are all better for having known him, and while we mourn his passing, we also express our deepest gratitude for the time we shared with this extraordinary man. Rest in peace, your love and legacy will forever be etched in our memories.
