Stanley Arthur Brooks Sr

Stanley was born in Poindexter, KY, on March 17, 1926 the son of Omer and Daisy Miller Brooks. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life Effie Beatrice Leatherman, five brothers, Kenny Brooks, Oscar Brooks, James Brooks, Johnnie Brooks and Everett Brooks and three sisters, Nellie Laytart, Helen England and Barbara Malone.

He is survived by a sister, Zona Palmer, Cynthiana. Two daughters Brenda Harney and Doris Burden, Cynthiana, two stepdaughters Sue Holcomb, Campbellsburg, Candy Benson, Cynthiana. One son Stanley Brooks, Jr, Louisville, two stepsons Robert Black, Campbellsburg and Mitchell Brooks, Crestwood. Stanley had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Stanley was a retired Train and Road Master for CSX Railroad where he worked for over 50 years. He loved to reminisce about his time at CSX and had stories for anyone that wanted to listen (and those that didn’t). He was a very humble and kind man who loved to play poker, a round of pool, fish for catfish, or watch Andy Griffith and Bonanza. He loved warm cinnamon rolls, a hot plate of biscuits with gravy and a stack of buttermilk pancakes as often as he could get them. Stanley loved flowers and kept a fresh bouquet on this table every week. He was an avid coffee drinker who enjoyed a cup on his front porch watching the trains roll through LaGrange.

Stanley treasured his time with granddaughter Debbie and her husband Donnie Brooks who loved and cared for him the last two years of his life. He was a compassionate and generous man who believed in extending a helping hand to those who needed it. He kept life simple and was a very happy soul who stayed active and lived independently until the day he left this world.

Cremation was chosen per Stanley’s wishes with a private family viewing held on Monday, May 22 at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home in LaGrange, Ky. Since there isn’t a formalize visitation, we encourage you to pick a bouquet of flowers, plant a flowering shrub or annuals – Stanley would have loved that.
