Rocky was born to Bill and Pearl Black on June 1, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky. As a child, Rocky loved fishing, football and his friends.
Rocky met his wife, Carol in 1963 at Oldham County High School. They married on June 3, 1966 and went on to have 2 children, Staci (Chad) and Carrie (Sean). They made their home in Oldham County, Kentucky. Rocky retired from General Electric in 1996. He loved helping other people which led him to his second career at Cedar Lake Lodge and finally at Lowe's Home Improvement where he was known more for his chatting rather than actually working.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving father, Rocky also loved playing golf, tinkering in his garage and taking beach vacations with his grandkids. During his time at GE, Rocky was actively involved in supporting the Special Olympics and led a men’s prayer group for his co-workers. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. As a child, he attended DeHaven Baptist Church in LaGrange. After he and Carol were married, they joined the congregation of Mt. Tabor UMC in Centerfield. Rocky would often be seen at church leading prayer, setting up the community dart-ball league and anything else that needed to be done. He shared his faith through ministering to the Youth of Mt. Tabor, being the Sunday School Superintendent and a Lay Leader for the church.
Rocky joins his parents, brother -in- law, and many cousins and friends in Heaven. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol and their 2 daughters, Staci (Chad) and Carrie (Sean). Also his older sister, Barbara Swinney along with many nieces and nephews. His three grandchildren were the light of his life and the reason he fought for so long. He loved watching Savannah (15) play soccer and could be found cheering her on from the sidelines. Rocky loved teaching his grandsons, Logan (14) and Beau (9) how to do “stuff in the garage”. Often times, a trip to the garage included his beloved rescue pup, Minnie. She went everywhere with him as his shadow.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 11 AM on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home with burial to follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Visitation from 4 PM until 8 PM on Friday, January 14, 2022 as well as before the service Saturday beginning at 9 AM until the service.
