Caleb Ronald Oligney, 18, went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2015. We are saddened to let friends and family know that he chose to take his own life. He was an extremely intelligent and thoughtful young man who unfortunately became entangled in his own intellectual and spiritual troubles. We are encouraged in our belief that he was truly a son of God and that we will meet him again someday.
From the time he was five years old and trying to figure out how long he should be married before having his first kid, Caleb always thought so far ahead of what you would expect from a young man. He thought deeply about life and was consequently a fascinating person to talk to. He was enthusiastic about cutting edge technology and geopolitics and was always brimming with three or four book ideas. Caleb was more than his intellect, though. He always found ways to quietly help those around him; every spring, he began saving his money so he could gift people at Christmas and he consistently gave money to people he came across on street corners. His generosity and lively wit will be greatly missed.
Caleb leaves behind his parents, Ronald and Cheryl Oligney, and his five sisters. Please keep them in your prayers as they come to grips with his death.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Chapel, 411 Ranch Road 620 South.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Mobile Loaves and Fishes. This wonderful organization that Caleb and the Oligney family served with provides food and shelter to low-income families. You can make a contribution at https://www.donate.mlf.org/donate/.
