

He was born October 16, 1926, at Abbott, Texas. He is survived by his wife of the past 15 years, Christine Parham Ballew, and two sons: John Robert Ballew and wife Kate of Casper, WY and Alfred D Ballew and wife Barbara of Woodbridge, VA., two grandchildren, Carrie Jo Reese and husband Jobe and Michael Drew Ballew and wife Mandy, and two great grandchildren: Cathryn Piper Reese and John Robert Ballew, all of Casper, WY. He is survived by a brother, Harold Ballew and his wife Gwen of Modesto, CA and a sister Mary Hall of Austin, TX and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by 4 step children, Randy Richards and wife Kris of Houston, TX, Martha Benson and husband Jim of Snow Mass, CO, Larry Richards and wife Gwen of Manvel, TX, Sharla Darby of Tucson, AZ; two step-grandchildren, Elisabeth Richards and Austin Richards, both of Houston, TX.
Charles graduated from Levelland, TX high school in 1944. After an honorable discharge from military service in 1945 he worked in the steel industry in Africa, then the oilfields in west and south Texas. He continued his education and graduated from Lamar Tech in Beaumont, TX, with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1961. His professional engineering career spanned over 30 years, and included employment by the University of Pittsburg, where he became a lifelong Steelers fan, and employment by the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. with his office in the Treasury Building near the White House.
After retirement he moved to Lakeway, TX in 1994, where he did volunteer work at the City Hall and was active in the Lakeway Men’s Breakfast Club.
A visitation for family and friends is to be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 411 Ranch Road, 620 South, Austin, TX 78734. A graveside service is to be held at the Center Grove Cemetery, a few miles east of Mt. Pleasant, TX., on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. The service will be under the direction of Weed-Corley- Fish Funeral Home and Barry Pritchard, Minister of the Lake Travis Church of Christ.

Charles will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
