Gerald C. Dallas, veteran of the United States Air Force and full military Colonel, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the age of 94. He was born October 30, 1930, in Baird, Texas to Lucille (Carter) and Reta Dallas. He attended college at John Tarleton Agriculture College (now Tarleton State University), where he majored in Animal Husbandry and joined the National Guard. During college, Gerald found himself more passionate about classes in military science and spending his time in the Reserved Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), so he devoted his life’s work to military service. He then went to Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) taking two more years of Air Force ROTC before graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. He later earned a Master’s Degree at Troy State University at Maxwell Air Force Base.
Gerald was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force on May 25, 1953, and called into active-duty August 1953. Gerald enjoyed flying over ten thousand hours in a variety of planes during his military career, including the Boeing B17 Flying Fortress, B-47, T-6 Texan, the North American B-25 Mitchell, KC-135 Stratotanker, Convair T-29 and the C-130 Hercules. Gerald was promoted to Colonel in January 1977, having dedicated 30 years of service to the United States Air Force.
Gerald married Carol Middleton on August 17,1954, the same day he received his pilot wings. Before Carol passed in 2022, they enjoyed a devoted marriage and lifelong love of nearly 68 years. They raised their family in Pasadena, Texas and lived there for 18 years. After his retirement from active duty, he worked for the City of Pasadena in Civil Defense where he received a Meritorious Service Medal (First Oak Cluster) for Disaster Preparedness. In 1986, he and Carol relocated to Lakeway, Texas where he continued to work in the Real Estate field.
Gerald was an active member of the Lakeway Church and loved to read and study the Bible and his daily devotionals. He had an active campaign of writing motivational and inspirational letters to prison inmates, enjoyed a good western movie and always carried a fork in his pocket because he knew the best is yet to come. Later in life, he enjoyed reminiscing with friends, family and new acquaintances about his flying adventures. He spread the Lord’s word and looked forward to reuniting with Carol and Danny.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and youngest son Daniel (Danny) Shaun Dallas. He is survived by his other three children: Michel (Mike) Dale (wife Libbie), Dennis Lee, and Diane Dallas Turner, four grandchildren, Zachary (Zach) Michel Dallas (wife Ana Javed), Alexander (Alex) Eli Dallas (fiancee Nicki Reckziegel), Kaitlynn (Kaity) Tara Dallas-Smith (husband Christian Dallas-Smith), and Dallas Justin Turner and one great granddaughter.
A visitation for Gerald will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd, Lakeway, TX 78734. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, also at Lakeway Church. A committal service will take place on Monday, December 16, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
