Jim was blessed in many ways. His thirst for knowledge and his entrepreneurial spirit made him a mentor to and a colleague of so many fantastic people. He worked for so many successful startup companies, usually being one of the first, if not the first, to join. His career took him to Tennessee, North Carolina, Maryland, Georgia and finally Texas. He met Robin, his wife of 32 years, at one of the startup companies in North Carolina. Not only was he successful in his career, but he was also looked up to by his whole family. When there was a problem, it was always, “Ask Jim”.
Jim loved sports, playing baseball and basketball in his youth and later softball for many years. He used his love of sports to coach his boys’ basketball, football, and baseball teams. In addition, he spent countless hours as a Boy Scout troop leader, teaching and empowering many young men.
Jim attended St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Kentucky, and later received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Louisville.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Robin Lee O’Connor, daughter, Elizabeth O’Connor Sumpter (Zach), and sons Patrick Ryan O’Connor, Timothy Gerarad O’Connor, and Michael Leonard O’Connor; his sisters, Janet O’Connor Schweinhart (Joe) and Karin O’Connor Slaton (Dan); two granddaughters, Ella Sumpter and Emmi Sumpter; Father in-law, Robert W. McLaughlin.
Jim was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Austin. There will be a Mass in the church at 11:00 a.m on March 18th, followed by the Inurnment at the Columbarium on the premises. Afterwards there will be a Celebration of Jim’s life with a “good ol’ Irish wake” also on the premises.
