Nicole's Mama wanted Nicole's final days to be spent near her home, where her so beloved brother Michael, step-father Tom Bowles, close friends, and her much loved Yorkie Perseus could surround her with love, peace, hugs, and prayers. She was as beautiful as ever, serene, comfortable, and very peaceful during her last journey, in her mother's arms, surrounded by family, friends, her local oncologist Dr. Debra Patt and family Priest Father Vasileios Flegas.
Nicole had valiantly fought breast cancer for the past four and one half years, with her mother at her side at every step of the way. During her illness she lived with her mother in four different cities and was treated by some of the very best cancer centers around the country: Northwestern University in Chicago, The University of Chicago Medical Center, Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and three and a half years at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Nicole charmed numerous doctors and was loved enough to be given their personal cell phone numbers to call when needed.
Following in her brother's footsteps (Class of '94), Nicole graduated in 1996 from Phillips Exeter Academy, one of the most elite preparatory schools in the country. She went on to attend A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management, followed by a Master of Science degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009. She was only a few hours away from receiving her second Master's degree in creative writing from Northwestern University in Chicago. While attending summer classes at Yale University, Nicole fell in love with acting and later delighted New York audiences as a stand-up comic.
Professionally, Nicole held the position of Assistant Dean for Graduate Academic Affairs at Illinois Institute of Technology, College of Architecture in Chicago, Illinois and later as Assistant Dean of Student Affairs for Academic Advising at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She delighted in helping numerous students through their toughest times and loved giving back to her community.
Nicole was highly respected and loved by all who knew her. She was an adventurous spirit with a great sense of humor. She loved to travel all over Europe, but her favorite memories were of the summers she spent on the Greek islands and getting to know her extensive Greek family who showered Nicole with love, warmth, and true Greek hospitality.
She is survived by her Mama, Niky Xylouris Osborne Bowles, who often called Nicole her "life line," and "the sunshine of her life," her brother Michael Osborne, who loved to call her "Plots," her adoring step- father Tom Bowles, her numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in Greece, her dear friends from childhood, Exeter, Tulane, University of Pennsylvania, Northwestern, Yale, and numerous other friends from all over the world. Most special to her was her beloved Yorkie Perseus, whom she referred to as "Mr. P.," along with her brother's dog Icarus, and her mother's dog Polo.
"Nicolio" brought love, sunshine, kindness, and compassion to all with whom she came in contact. She will forever be missed.
