Phyllis Elizabeth Hein Hook was born Feb. 23, 1925, in Billings, Montana, the fifth of eight children born to Alexander and Mary Gabel Hein. After graduating from Billings High School she went to work for Mountain Bell Telephone, beginning a career with the Bell System that continued in supervisory and managerial positions until her retirement 42 years later.
In 1948 she married George William "Bill" Hook Jr. of Bedford, Iowa. The couple moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 1952, and for the next 38 years enjoyed golf, travel, and gardening. After Bill's death in 1990 Phyllis moved to Lakeway, Texas, to be near her brother, Marvin Hein.
Phyllis was an avid golfer, one of the first members of Friends of the Parks, and served on the boards of Friends of the Parks and the Tres Vista Homeowners Association. She made many beautiful quilts and took great pleasure in her gardening and needlework. She moved to The Summit of Lakeway Assisted Living in 2008 and to Longhorn Village Memory Care in 2011.
She is predeceased by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Marvin, Robert and Herbert; and two sisters, Mildred and Louise. She is survived by two brothers, Russell Hein (Barbara) and Gary Hein (Sandy) of Billings; two sisters-in-law, Peg Hein of Austin and Marilyn Hein of Des Moines, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service for Phyllis will be held at a later date.
