Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Phyllis Ann Vaughn, nee Grimes, 60, was greeted by our heavenly father on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in Austin, Texas. Born in Kingsville, Texas, she soon moved to Houston, where she grew up and graduated from South Houston High School. In her younger years, she loved to play the violin and was a member of the South Houston High School Orchestra. She attended Texas A&M University, graduating cum laude in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Phyllis was a member of Omega Chi Epsilon Chemical Engineering Honor Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. She married her husband, William Daniel "Dan" Vaughn, in the weeks following her graduation and moved to Houston, where she worked for Amoco Oil Company, serving as a chemical engineer for five years. She and Dan then moved to Galveston, Texas and she left work, dedicating her life to raising her daughters.
Phyllis was an avid reader, talented artist, and Master Gardener. With her creative nature and boundless imagination, she produced beautiful works of art, mastering the skills of photography, ceramics, and later in life jewelry making. She was an accomplished artist, receiving awards in several photography shows. A true Aggie football fan, her loyalty to her fighting Texas Aggies never wavered, even after 38 years of marriage to a Texas Longhorn.
Known to her grandchildren as "Moomoo," she loved her family and devoted her later years to caring for them after school. She was a member of the Junior League of Galveston, serving as treasurer. She dedicated countless hours to her churches, attending Trinity Episcopal Church and Grace Episcopal Church, both in Galveston, Texas and Saint Michael's Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas. She taught Sunday school and at Trinity, was a member of the Women of the Church, served on the vestry board and altar guild, and spent many Sundays as a chalice bearer. She also served on the Trinity Episcopal School Board. Family and friends will always remember her beautiful artistic nature, keen wit, marvelous laugh, dry humor, and unequivocal love for spicy food.
She is survived by her husband, Dan Vaughn of Austin, Texas; daughter, Eryn Ebaugh and son-in-law, Stephen Ebaugh of Houston, Texas and daughter, Carly Vaughn of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Cory Rozier of Austin, Texas, Sienna Bohn of Austin, Texas, William Ebaugh of Houston, Texas and Elizabeth Ebaugh of Houston, Texas; a sister, Kelley Stubbings and brother-in-law, Curtis Stubbings of the Woodlands, Texas; mother-in-law, Jean Vaughn of Deer Park, Texas; sister-in-law, Deborah Ploucher of Pinehurst, Texas; brother-in-law, Timothy Vaughn and his wife, Sheri Vaughn, of Deer Park, Texas; two nephews, Derrick Ploucher of Pinehurst, Texas, and Eric Stubbings of Los Angeles, California; and two nieces, Jeni Hendrix of Deer Park, Texas and Paige Stubbings of College Station, Texas.
