Ross Burroughs Burke Jr.

Ross Burroughs Burke, Jr., 91, passed peacefully on March 13, 2024. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Scott Burke and Meredith Burke, son and daughter-in-law Bryant Burke and Esther Burke, and son and daughter-in-law Ross “Slade” Burke and Tracy Burke; his “adopted” son and family friend Stephen Lackey; grandchildren Dustin Burke, Fiona Burke, Anna Burke, Josh Burke, Shane Burke, Dana Browne, Ann-Estelle Burke, Slade Burke, and Vivian Burke; and great grandchildren Colton Burke, Mason Burke, Luke Burke, Beau Browne, Teddy Browne, Chloe Burke and Sloan Burke.

He was born on October 14, 1932, in Houston, Texas, to Ross Burroughs Burke and Helen Ruth Anderson Burke. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Cornell University.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a wonderful mentor and friend to his family. He practiced law after graduating from Cornell Law School before transferring to Bessemer & Trust where he practiced estate planning law. He then followed his entrepreneurial spirit and co-founded Security National Bank & Trust in New Jersey, where he was one of the early innovators of financial management for clients. In his free time, he loved playing golf, bird hunting, sharing tales about his golf and hunting outings, and, of course, a good cigar.

His family will always remember the summers in Skaneateles, New York and time on the porches of his homes in Bentwater, Texas and, then, in Austin, Texas.

His family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Morning Glory, especially his loving caregivers, Florence and Dalitso.

A celebration of life will be held for Ross on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 411 Ranch Rd 620 S Lakeway, TX 78734.
