

Sandra was born on April 20, 1932 in Amarillo to Louis Kessler Gilley and Corey Gilley. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1950 and married James A. McTaggart of Pampa on May 17, 1950.
After living in Oklahoma City, Seattle, Puerto Rico and the San Francisco Bay area, Sandra and Jim settled in Dallas where Jim worked for the US Public Health Service, and Sandra was a homemaker and active in the Tau Iota chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International.
Following Jim's death in 1984, Sandra became active in the fight against AIDS, volunteering many hours with Oak Lawn Community Services and AIDS Arms. Sandra also served as a volunteer counselor with AARP's Widowed Persons Service and Grief and Loss Program in Dallas and later in Austin.
Sandra had a lifelong love of horses and owned an American Quarter Horse, Della Poco Rose. She participated in the 1986 Texas Sesquicentennial Wagon Train and numerous trail rides over the years on which she made many treasured friends.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her daughter Stacey, daughter-in-law Karen, and grandchildren Landie, Lindsay and Aidan all of Austin, and by her brother Louis K. Gilley II of Amarillo.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 13 at 2 p.m. at Metropolitan Community Church of Austin, 8601 South First Street. Service in Amarillo pending.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AIDS Arms or the charity of your choice.
