Born in Englewood, NJ, he served in the Korean War, attended Rutgers University Graduate School and built a career as an immunologist for Schering Plough. Post retirement he volunteered for the Austin middle schools where he received the honor of volunteer of the year.
He had many interests including photography, birding, flying, traveling, and opera to name a few.
Walter is survived by his loving family – children Janine, Wende' (Carlton), and Thomas (Kimberley). Grandchildren Amber, Ian (Shannon), Hunter, Kate, Brian, Greg, Tim, Tristan and Lora. Greats Zane, Vaughn, and Harper. Cousins and nieces. Preceding him are parents Dr. Thomas Protzman and Mary Stewart and brother Dr. S. Blair Protzman.
A remembrance will be held August 6, 2 to 4:00pm at a family site.
