Wesley Benthal Kuenemann

Wesley Benthal (Ben) Kuenemann of Austin, Texas, died January 7, 2025 at the age of 87. Ben was born on January 26, 1937 in El Paso, Texas to parents Wesley Adolph Kuenemann of Fredericksburg, Texas and Lyda Grace Hargon Kuenemann of Llano, Texas.

Ben grew up in Houston, Texas. He earned a degree in Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Ben married Sylvia Rose Wilmoth of Houston, Texas in 1960 and they have two children and four grandchildren. Ben enjoyed a decades long career in Information Technology Management at IBM and Texas Commerce Bank. In 1996, Ben retired after 10 years as Senior Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer at Bear Stearns in New York City, at which time he and Sylvia moved back to Texas to live on the golf course at The Hills of Lakeway.

Throughout his life Ben was an avid golfer. In retirement he also became a gifted painter of watercolors. He and Sylvia travelled extensively, providing much of his artistic subject matter. Ben was an active member of The Lakeway Painters, The Hills of Lakeway Homeowners Association and the University of Texas Scholarship Committee. He and Sylvia were members of Lakeway Church.

Ben is survived by his wife, Sylvia Kuenemann, his two children, Clinton Alan Kuenemann and Karen Kuenemann Harrell and their spouses, Cynthia L. Anderson and Robert King Harrell II. Ben is also survived by his sister, Kathryn (Katie) Sonnanstine and his four grandchildren, Zachary Anderson and MacKenzie Anderson Kuenemann and Grace Elizabeth and Wesley King Harrell. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 17 at 11 am in the Chapel at the Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd, Lakeway, TX 78734, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
