Doreen Ann Jones was born July 26, 1936. She was born in New York, but moved around early on, as her father was a proud military man! Doreen’s childhood family settled in California in the early 1940s.
Doreen met the love of her life in high school and married Clinton Andrew Jones (Bill, Casey) on August 9, 1955. She traveled with him, as he was also a proud military man, spending time in the Air
Force and Civil Service, until his retirement. She cared for her husband through his battle with cancer until his death in 2001. Her example of caring for him taught us how to care for her as she fought her own battle. May their Heavenly reunion be as amazing as their love story!
Doreen was a mother to many, raising her three daughters, Diane Robison (Granite Falls WA), Denise McCollum (Judsonia AR), and Beverly Vokes (Belleville, IL). Doreen cared deeply for her three sons in law, James Robison, Patrick McCollum, and Robert Vokes Jr. We know Jim and Pat are waiting to greet her at Heavens Gates!
Doreen has 4 siblings she shared many memories with who meant the world to her. Harry Curley (Lancaster CA), William Curley (Louisville KY), Terry Curley (Temecula CA), and Karen Curley (Las Vegas NV). Always a sister, but often a mom to her siblings! Following her mom’s passing, she quietly became the matriarch of the Curley Family! Her parents preceded her in death, Harry Curley and Helen Felicia Smith Curley raised a strong daughter that left a big mark on this Earth!
Doreen was an aunt to many, too many to count! We are estimating 35 nieces and nephews! She was an aunt and often a mom to them too!
Doreen leaves this world with a legacy of love to follow. She has 9 grandchildren to carry on her love, strength and determination! They each show many of her traits and are also unique in their own way! Mandee Jamieson (Lancaster CA), Heather Bayly (Granite Falls WA), Jason McCollum (Anchorage AK), Jenille Kane (Granite Falls WA), Ashley Williams (Judsonia AR), Emily Vokes (Nashville TN),
Joshua McCollum (Ward AR), Nicholas Vokes (Spokane WA), and Sydney Vokes (Tag)(Belleville IL).
Doreen also leaves behind 10 great grandchildren: Autumn, Janessa, Britnee, Aiden, Callie, Eliviya, Gabby, Brayden, Matthew, Desirae, with many more to come,
God willing!
Doreen was first and foremost a wife and mom! Once her children were all in school, she took on a part time job at the neighborhood elementary school. She worked as a “Lunch Lady” at Sierra School for 40 years, 1972-2012, becoming a mom to thousands of kids! Don’t let the term “lunch lady” fool you, she was a mom, role model, and confidant to students, teachers, parents and school administrators. Making a difference in countless lives. Ensuring everyone had lunch money and 10 cents for ice cream!
Doreen spent her free time with family and friends! Always opening her home to anyone that needed a kitchen table to sit at, a cup of coffee, a meal or a bed! Her home always had an open door! She also enjoyed bingo, bowling, watching soap operas and game shows, and trips to Vegas to play Keno! She traveled the world and the USA visiting friends and family and seeing the world!
Doreen laughed a lot, made wonderful memories along the way and will be forever in our hearts! Remember her with a
smile as that is how she remembered you!
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Mayflower Gardens Pool House following the burial. Parking requested on Ringstem Ave on the street to ensure all residents are able to park at their apartments. Family hopes to see you there!
Flowers and Plants are welcome! Donations on her behalf to Hospice or American Cancer Society are also appreciated!
