Ubaldo “Waldo” Maestas, born in April of 1940 in Taos, NM, went home to be with our Lord on July 20, 2022. He is one of 12 children, seven brothers and five sisters. He has four daughters (two living), two sons, and 11 grandchildren (three grandsons and eight granddaughters, one just born this past Wednesday). Waldo moved to California when he was 19 years old; he got a job working for the Forest Services in Pasadena and the Angeles National Forest. Once the season ended, he moved to Santa Monica where he began working in the air conditioning and appliance industry. Then, in 1967 he was drafted into the Army, he was assigned as a medic and then volunteered to go to jump school. He became jump qualified with the 101st Airborne Division, which then deployed to Vietnam. While in Vietnam for one year, he was a combat medic for the 101st Airborne Division. He returned home with many medals, one of them being a Bronze Star for his heroic achievement. After returning home, he returned to the appliance industry working for Gaffers and Sattler's; it was this employment that brought him to Lancaster. It was around this time that he met his wife Linda; they married in December of 1977. After attending Antelope Valley College, he began his career at FAA (Federal Aviation Administration); he was employed there for over 34 years, retiring in 2011. During this time, he also had his own business, W.M. Appliance Htg. & A/C. After retiring he and his wife Linda, took it easy; they traveled a couple of times, but mostly just relaxed and enjoyed their grandkids and their dog Holly, who is now almost 13 years old.
