Trying to convey what it means to be part of the human experience is a lifetime of difficulty. The simplistic version could possibly be that the only thing we are asked to do of ourselves is try and understand right from wrong and move forward with whatever outcome that comes afterward. This is the simplistic answer because it could have so many meanings. It could be something as straightforward as treating others the way we want to be treated or something much more morally complex as fulfilling our spiritual duties, whatever that may be depending on the person. Now the part that makes all that so difficult to convey is the thing that only has one meaning, loss. We will all experience loss in our life time and time again. It's something we can never prepare for and never should. Because if we were able to prepare for it then it's impact wouldn't be as meaningful. We need to understand what we have lost in order to remember how special and unique it was to us in the first place.
I've known Yesenia Murrieta since elementary school. When my mom did a lot of PTA or volunteering work she would stay after school to help her out or she would somehow be participating in the school choir or whatever activity my mom would help be setting up. If anything my mom probably stayed in touch with her more than I did. When Yesenia worked at KFC her and my mom would catch up a lot whenever she drove through there. Telling my mom what happened to her was easily one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. She really loved you Yesenia.
But getting back to what it means to be part of the human experience, the extraordinary acts of motherhood she demonstrated is a good place to start. Her sacrifice and the strength she maintained for her son means something good still remains in all this. The only thing the rest of us can do is go back to the simplistic part. Do what you think is right, treat the people you care about with love and hope you get plenty of more days do it. I hope there's peace for you now, Yesenia.
