Bobbie Jean Meeks was born in Bynum, Texas, to Reverend William L. Meeks and Evelyn Mays Meeks.
Upon her mother’s death, at the tender age of four, Bobbie was taken in by her mother’s sister, Gussie Doss, who lived in Hobbs, New Mexico with her husband, Hubert Doss, and daughter Doris Ann Doss. They lovingly raised Bobbie as their own daughter alongside Doris, becoming her mom, dad, and sister.
Bobbie graduated from Hobbs High School in 1958, and within months married her High School sweetheart, Billy Joe Moten. They brought three daughters, Nedra, Sandra, and Bridgette, into the world, but sadly, the two divorced.
In 1974, Bobbie moved the girls to Las Vegas, Nevada, near her sister Maycell Diggs, where she eventually met and married Allen Brooks in 1978. They were still married when the LORD called her home. Throughout her life, she worked a variety of jobs: blackjack dealer, insurance sales, to name a few.
Bobbie went into business and opened a Millinery shop called Honey’s Boutique, which featured unique hats and purses. The boutique’s origin: When the grandchildren came to visit, they assumed Grandpa Allen’s name was Honey, since that was what their Nana called him.
Few people knew Bobbie was a writer. When Jesus knocked on her door, her journey in Him began. There are countless joy journals of her Christian walk. Her love for the Lord ignited a fervent dedication to studying His Word.
In time, Bobbie retired to take care of her husband, in addition to home, while serving in the food bank, among other activities. A genuine heart for God’s people—all people, often saw her ministering, mentoring and motivating others to stand firm in the faith.
She loved her husband, her girls, her family, and friends. Though tiny in stature, she made up for it with her larger-than-life personality. Bobbie was congenial, charismatic, charitable, and a child of God. Her dynamic qualities drew people in like a moth to a flame. To encounter Bobbie was to love her. All in Christ rejoice today for we know to be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend William L. Meeks Sr. and Evelyn Mays Meeks; Hubert I. Doss and Gussie Mays Doss, two brothers; William (June) L. Meeks Jr. and John (Jabo) L. Meeks; one sister, Maycell Diggs.
Bobbie leaves to mourn her passing: her husband, Allen Brooks; her three daughters and their husbands: Nedra (John) Russell of Greeley, Colorado; Sandra (James) Daniels of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; Bridgette (Zach) Butler of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters; Mattie Jewel of Killeen, Texas, and Doris Ann Gaffney of Spanaway, Washington; five grandchildren: Brandon, Jade, Kirsten, Joe, Barae’; five great grandchildren; various nephews and nieces; friends, acquaintances; and last, her beloved dog, Mr. Miracle.
