

Brent Rulon Dyer, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on January 28, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Brent was born July 15, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Alvin Rulon and May Elizabeth Jackson Dyer. Brent attended William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri, while his father served as the mission president in the Central States Mission. He attended Brigham Young University for one year eventually transferring to the University of Utah where he graduated with a degree in finance.
Brent worked in the Real Estate Development field throughout his life developing numerous commercial and residential properties all the around the Intermountain Region. Early on in his profession, he was approached by Howard Hughes to head up his real estate division. Ultimately, he decided to follow his own pursuits and vision for the future. At one point in his career, he was asked to build over 5,000 homes on the Crow Indian Reservation by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He also served on President Ronald Reagan’s Economic Business Council.
Brent met the love of his life, Carol Lynn Smith while they were both attending the University of Utah. They were sealed for “Time and All Eternity” on December 19, 1963 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Brent and Carol Lynn recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary and received a letter acknowledging this milestone by President Donald J. Trump. They are the proud parents of four children: Alisyn, Brent R. II, Jennifer Lynn, and Julianne.
Brent was a faithful member and tireless servant of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Brent served a full-time mission as a young man in the Eastern States Mission. After two years of service in the Eastern States Mission, he joined his father, President Alvin R. Dyer, in the European Mission where he served an additional two years. Brent served as a Bishop, Stake High Councilor, Stake Mission Leader, High Priest Group Leader, Elder’s Quorum President and in many other callings throughout his life.
Brent loved sports and excelled in high school basketball, baseball, and football. After high school he was invited to play in the Cincinnati Red’s farm system, following in his father’s professional baseball footsteps. He also served in the Air National Guard. Brent was an avid handball player and was once ranked as one of
the top five handball players in the country. He also loved golf and could boast of three “Hole in One’s” in his lifetime. Brent and Carol Lynn served on the Utah Opera Guild, Utah Symphony Board, Pioneer Memorial Theater Guild along with may other civic and philanthropic endeavors. Brent and Carol Lynn travelled the world extensively and especially enjoyed visiting Europe and the Middle East where they loved the rich history and unique culture.
Brent was deeply loved by his wife and family, and he leaves a great void in their hearts as a patriarch, husband, father, and grandfather. He is remembered for his tenacity, determination, integrity, honor, humor, loyal friendship, and unparalleled story-telling ability. Brent was proceeded in death by his parents, Alvin Rulon and May Elizabeth Dyer and his sister Gloria and her husband Reed Klein. Brent is survived by his wife, Carol Lynn Smith Dyer; children, Alisyn (Jerome) Bowen, Brent II (Danielle) Dyer, Jennifer (Scott) Harline, and Julianne (Steve) Plummer; grandchildren, Chaisson (Kirsten) Bowen, Brent Dyer III, Landyn (Ash) Johnson, Chandler (Hannah) Bowen, Huck Dyer, Crew Dyer, Ella Harline; great grandchildren, Holland Johnson, Mack Johnson, Oliver Bowen.
