He was born March 1, 1932, in Grandfield, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of 6 children. Bruce married the love of his life, Patsy just after her 18th birthday in 1955 and they were inseparable until her death in 2019.
After serving in the US Army during the Korean War, he held various tough jobs throughout his life and first came to Las Vegas in 1961 to work out at the Nevada Test Site as a driller. After a decade at the test site, he owned and operated Bruce’s Sahara Texaco for over 17 years including a full-service garage. After selling that business he worked as a school bus driver for the Clark County School District and then transferred to being a mechanic on those same buses. He finally retired in 2002 at 70 years of age! But those were just ‘jobs’ and not his real passion.
Telling others of Jesus and teaching Sunday School until just a couple of years ago, is where his heart truly was. He wanted every single person he met to know his Lord and to have a church of believers to be a part of. He never stopped telling people the wonderful Gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved God and loved people and it showed in everything he did.
He is survived by his son Scott Castleberry, daughter Stacy Butler (Craig), grandchildren Sonia Ochoa, Christina Castleberry-Tapia (Gerardo), Patrick Castleberry, Anastasia Castleberry, Alexandra Bautista (Alejandro), Bronte Barrett (James) and Savannah Butler; great-grandchildren Elephteria Ochoa, Avery Butler and Owen Barrett. He is also survived by his special ‘granddaughter’ Shari Butler and numerous nephews and nieces throughout the country.
A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:30am at First Baptist Church 4400 W. Oakey Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89102.
