Carmen Mercedes Soto-Colon 1929-2024

Our beloved Mother and Grandmother peacefully passed away Saturday April 6, 2024 in Las Vegas, NV.

She was born on November 5, 1929 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico to Maximina and Isaias Soto. The oldest daughter of 14 children. Lovingly called Chede/Chelly by her family, she was a source of strength, warmth and faith for her parents and siblings.

In the 1950s, she moved to Brooklyn, New York where she later gave birth to her three beautiful daughters Sandra Rodriquez (Eli), Sonia Colòn and Rebecca Perez (Freddy) who meant the absolute world to her.

Carmen lived by the rule that food was the way to the heart. She would share her culinary talent with all and was always ready to feed her guests no matter how last minute the visit. Carmen loved knitting, making scarfs and blankets for all of her loved ones ; especially the moment she heard of an upcoming arrival of a new baby. She was an avid gardener and collector of pine cones. On occasion someone would receive one with a nice little “I Love You” note.

She lived in Marquis Centennial Hills Nursing Home since 2016. She adopted the staff as her second family. In turn, they came to know her as their own loving mother and grandmother.

She leaves behind an incredible legacy of her 3 daughters, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, who will forever carry her love, compassion, and spirit in their hearts. Her love for her family was only matched by her love of GOD. We are at such peace knowing she is now in Heaven with the lord and is receiving the most glorious welcoming in his arms.
