Dana Puanani Doo-Soghoian was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 21, 1944, to Alexander and Helen Doo. She was the second oldest of eight siblings.
Puni graduated from St. Francis Convent School in 1962 and shortly after was hired as a secretary at Universal Motors in Honolulu. Her following job was as a Continental Airlines stewardess which eventually led her to working for the State Department in Washington, DC. Upon returning to Washington, DC she earned a BA degree in Sociology and became a contract specialist for the U.S. Agency for International Development where she worked until her retirement.
Puni met her husband, Marshall, while living in the Washington, DC area and they were married in Hawaii on May 29, 1983. When he passed away in 2007, she decided to move back home to Hawaii. Puni was then lured to Las Vegas by her sister, Kawena, in 2014, as well as by the casino slot machines, a hobby at which she was very lucky.
Her love for tennis continued throughout her life and she was very competitive, winning many tournaments. In later years, Puni developed a love for pickle ball. She also enjoyed beach time and dining at restaurants.
Puni is preceded by her parents, Maile Doo, Harry Doo, Kawena Williams, and Momi Szypulski. She is survived by her siblings Lani Luminelle (Mike Luminelle), Penny Ann Valenta (Donald Valenta), Leinette Colby (Brian Colby) and her nieces and nephews.
