Dorette W. Taylor passed away at her home in North Las Vegas, Nevada on May 9, 2021. She was born April 25, 1931 in Rochester, New York state and blessedly adopted by Henri and and Florentine Reeg. Her childhood was spent sharing her young life with her sister Elaine. They would spend hours playing with dolls in the backyard doll house built by their Father. She graduated from St. Paul Lutheran School elementary school in 1944 and continued her education at high school in Passiac, New Jersey.
On June 29, 1952, she married Richard Taylor at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Paterson, New Jersey. They began their lives together in New Jersey. Two children were born to them there, Kenneth and Suzanne. A few years later the family moved to Upstate NY. The family soon grew with the birth of Joanne. Dorette and Richard enjoyed their life together for 68 years until Richard’s passing in January 2021.
In those early years, Dorette worked in data entry, first at Cornell University followed by a New York State Vocational Training School. She enjoyed those early years in upstate New York enjoying the outdoor adventures, gardening and raising a family.
Having been enriched by the cold winters of the east coast all of her life, one year after Richard retired from Cornell, Richard and Dorette moved to the warmth of Arizona. Wishing to be closer to their daughters, a move to Nevada followed in 2007.
In retirement, Dorette and Richard continued a life long passion for travel in their fifth wheel. They spend several summers working as Camp Hosts in Ft. Collins Colorado so they could be near Richard’s family. With a visit to Alaska in 2002, they reached their goal of visiting all 50 states. Dorette and Richard also enjoyed a trip to Europe in 1984.
As a life long Lutheran, Dorette was defined by her faith and was a member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Las Vegas. Prior to that she was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ithaca, NY, and Christ Greenfield Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona.
Dorette is survived by a son, Kenneth and wife, Reba; daughter, Suzanne and husband Clarence “Doc” Whitescarver; and daughter, Joanne and husband, Jim Stucky.
A celebration of life for Dorette Taylor will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 22rd at the Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made in Dorette’s honor to The Lamb Of God Lutheran School Endowment Fund.
