

Dorothy was educated in the public schools of Fordyce and received her high school diploma in 1951. She attended Arkansas A.M.&N College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas where she received a Bachelors of Science Degree in 1955. She began her career as an elementary school teacher in Crossett, Arkansas.
Dorothy moved to Las Vegas Nevada in 1959 and joined Zion United Methodist Church where she served as a stewardess. She later moved her membership to First A.M.E. Church. Dorothy was an educator and taught in the Clark County School District for 33 years.
In 1963, Dorothy met and joined in holy matrimony with Sam Taylor. To this union were born two sons, Vernon Wayne and Robert Rovaun. Dorothy received her Masters of Arts degree from UNLV and continued teaching until she retired in 1991.
Dorothy was a charter member of Les Femme Douze and a charter member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Alumni Chapter where she enjoyed working with young ladies. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories; her loving and devoted husband of 48 years; two sons Vernon Wayne (Jennifer), Robert (Melissa); Four grandchildren Samantha, Reece, Donovan and Nicole; one brother Willie York of San Francisco, California; two sisters Colleen Wilson and Margaret York of Las Vegas, Nevada; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and one brother in-law Q.B. Bush.
Loving and kind in all her ways. So willing to help, so quick to praise. Sincere and true in her heart and mind. Beautiful memories she left behind.
Rest now, Dorothy, from all the burdens you bore. We thank God for the times we shared and the good moments we’ve had. We hate to see you part. Just know that you'll be missed, yet cherished deep within our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25th from 3pm to 7pm at Palm Mortuary, 1325 North Main Street, Las Vegas; the memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 25th beginning at 10:00am at First A.M.E Church 2446 Revere Street, North Las Vegas, burial to follow at Palm Eastern Cemetery, 7600 South Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, repast will occur after the burial at First A.M.E. Church.
