HAL SILVERBERG

Hal was born to Jack and Betty Silverberg on September 23, 1926 in Bronx, NY. He died January 17, 2021 at the age of 94 years in Las Vegas, Nathan Adelson Hospice.

Hal’s dad and uncles were plumbers working on the Empire State Building which was completed in 13 months. Upon completion, the entire family moved to Los Angeles. He attended Hamilton High and then went into the Navy during World War II at the age of 17, serving in the South Pacific, on tugboat duty, pulling ships into harbors at Okinawa, Tinian, Guam and Saipan.

He loved that duty as they had an open galley and good food from the supply ships. Returning to the U.S., he went to work as an apprentice for his Uncle Louie at Silverberg Plumbing, in the San Fernando Valley.

In later years he was a foreman and lay out man for various plumbing companies. He was also a plumbing foreman on the re-build of MGM which became Bally’s after the fire.

Hal’s first wife, Audrey predeceased him, as did his infant daughter Gail, his adult daughter Sheri and his sister, Rita.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sharon. Hal was proud of his son, Jeffrey Allen (Laura), who has carried on the family tradition as a commercial plumbing contractor in Phoenix area.

He is survived by his granddaughter Heather (Tharen), great grandson Chance, nieces Trina and Dayna, great nephew Jason, a large extended family and many friends. Hal was a good bowler, carrying a 250 average for many years.

He and Sharon were dancers and members of two Las Vegas west coast swing dance clubs. They traveled to numerous dance conventions. In Australia, the women lined up to dance with Hal and the men lined up to dance with Sharon to learn the latest U.S. dance patterns. He was Master Mason of Home Lodge 721 for 53 years. He was a Plumber Retiree of Local 761. Hal loved a good joke. He always laughed hardest at his own quips. He treasured his family and friends, old and new. A special thanks to each of his care givers, including Coco and Jilly, and neighbors, who not only lightened the load but brightened each day.

Rest in peace and breathe easy, dear Hal. You will always be an angel on our shoulders as we dance the night away.
