Harvey Edward Lohmeyer of Las Vegas passed away Saturday, January 9, after a short battle with cancer. He was 83. Born in Quincy, Illinois, on February 4, 1932, Harvey is survived by his loving wife Thuy, who cared for him selflessly since their marriage in 2004. Harvey spent his early years in Illinois before moving to California in the late-1950s. He worked as a cook in several restaurants before buying a restaurant in 1974—Spivey’s in San Jose. He was a proud and tireless owner of that restaurant. Harvey brought an indefatigable work effort to other Bay Area restaurants he owned at different times during the next 20 years, including M & M in San Jose, Bake n Serve in Campbell, Gilley’s in Los Gatos and Patio Pizza in Santa Cruz. His customers loved his food but even more they loved his gentle teasing and ability to converse on any subject. A tender-hearted man, Harvey was especially cherished by children. He was a kid at heart. Harvey loved his games, especially pool and cards, both of which he played at a high level while maintaining a constant stream of comments to a usually appreciative audience. Those comments will be missed. In addition to his wife, Harvey is survived by seven children, Marisa (Nicole) Lohmeyer of San Francisco, David D’Antonio of Castro Valley, Ken (Jackie) D’Antonio of Painesville, Ohio, Joseph (Marlowe) of Kihei, Hawaii, Nick (Sue) Palermo of San Jose, California, Belinda Lohmeyer of Aurora, Illinois and Harvey Lohmeyer, Jr. of Illinois; 10 grandchildren, Joel, Zach and Sam Palermo of San Jose, Sean, Breanna, Noel, Colby and Mary of Painesville, Ohio and Sam and Emeline D’Antonio of Castro Valley, California; and one brother, Tommy Lohmeyer of Quincy, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Blanche, eight siblings, Walter, Bob, Mildred, Florence, Rosendale, Alice, Virginia, Helen and Betty; and one daughter, Pamela.
