Our loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grand-Mother Helen M. Hansen passed away October 3, 2015 at the age of 99 years young. A resident of Las Vegas since 1985, Helen was born Jan. 5, 1916 in Honesdale, PA. After high school, in the early 1940’s Helen’s employment included working as a secretary in the State Capital at Harrisburg, PA, Assistant Librarian in the Pennsylvania State Planning Board Department as well as Assistant Librarian for American Type Founders. Helen’s love for reading began at a young age, along with a passion for better education, serving many years in the PTA at Anne LeGore Elementary school, attending church and teaching Sunday school at the United Methodist Church, El Monte, CA. Helen loved swimming, gardening, canning homemade jams and cooking delicious meals for her family; she was famous for her homemade cinnamon rolls baked every Christmas holiday, homemade lemon meringue pie and her delicious turkey dinner and yummy gravy – simply the best! She loved to entertain, had yearly memorable holiday parties and made everyone feel at home. After moving to Elizabeth, N.J., during WWII, Helen met her husband John C. Hansen, and they were married in July of 1944. Together for 61 blessed years, they shared a life filled with love along with the challenges of raising their family. Helen enjoyed many years being creative with food and activities on beach camping trips with her family. She was passionate about collecting antiques. Helen also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always interested in their journey through life, giving sage advice and offering good Grandma support. All who knew her cherished her; she always made everyone feel special with her huge giving heart. Helen made friends wherever she went, enjoyed going to local casinos to play penny slots, playing bridge, bingo, and countless card games, and her favorite game was shooting pool with her custom cue. Her “can do” spirit was contagious with everyone and she lived her life to the fullest! Godspeed beloved Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma! You are so very much loved and so deeply missed by your family and friends, we know you are in Heaven with the Angels. Helen is survived by her daughter, Phronsie Markin (Randy); Granddaughter, Kelly Valladon (Sean); great-grandchildren: Gianna & Parker; Grandson, Michael S. Markin (Dominique) and baby Markin; Granddaughter, Dawn McNeil-Stocker (Richard) and Great-grandchild Emily. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Hansen (2005) and her son, John C.
