Born on November 14, 1946, to Earl and Lawana Margetts, Jack grew up in Thornton, Colorado, alongside his older sister, Diane, and his younger brother, George. After graduating from Mapleton High School, he proudly served in the United States Air Force—an experience that shaped his character, instilling discipline, loyalty, and a deep appreciation for service.
Following his time in service, Jack met the love of his life, Charlene Coulter, in Sacramento, California. They married in 1969 and began their life together, welcoming three sons in the years that followed. Jack and Charlene later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they raised their young boys near Jack’s mother, Lawana, sister Diane, and brother George.
Jack dedicated 24 years to working as an inspector for the Las Vegas Valley Water District. Known for his reliability and strong work ethic, he took great pride in his work and formed lasting friendships with his colleagues. After retiring, Jack returned to his beloved home state of Colorado with his second wife, who had been a fellow high school student, Beverly “Jeanne” Leonard, who passed away in 2022. Jeanne also brought him two step-daughters, whom he adored, Alicia Leonard and Reshell Leonard.
In Jack’s final years, life brought him and Charlene back together. They rekindled their relationship in 2023, rediscovering the bond they had shared for so long. Jack remarried Charlene, the love of his life, and together they created new memories filled with warmth, companionship, and peace.
Jack had a lifelong passion for music and spent countless hours playing and building custom guitars, finding comfort and joy in every note. He also loved building and flying model airplanes. He was a devoted coin collector, drawn to the stories and history behind each piece, which reflects his thoughtful and curious nature. Jack was an Extra Class Ham radio operator for 39 years.
Jack is survived by his wife, Charlene Margetts, and their three sons: Scott Margetts (Lynette), Bryan Margetts, and Jason Margetts (Ginny), Step-Daughters Alicia Leonard and Reshell Leonard. He is also survived by his brother George Margetts (Barbara), his six beloved grandchildren—Ian, Regan, Trevor, Ava and Step-Grandsons Johnny and Matthew. He was preceded in death by his sister, Diane McConnell, his parents Earl and Lawana Margetts and his former wife, Beverly “Jeanne” Leonard.
Jack will be remembered for his gentle humor, quiet strength and unwavering devotion to his family. He lived a life of integrity and kindness, touching the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he leaves behind.
Jack will be buried next to his mother Lawana, Sister Diane and in the future, his brother George – in their family plot.
