James Lee Erwin, 61, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born on the Fourth of July in 1964 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Gerald (Jerry) and Nancy Erwin, James brought a spark of independence and energy to his family right from the start.
James spent his early years in Indiana before relocating with his family to Las Vegas in 1978, where he would lay down his own roots. He shared two wonderful daughters, Afton and Ashlee, with his former spouse, Kimberlee, and took great pride in watching his family grow to include his beloved granddaughters, Amaya Newman and Avery Menocal.
A proud graduate of Bishop Gorman High School’s Class of 1983, James’s lifelong passion for athletics took root on the football field and the golf course. He later channeled this extensive sports knowledge into a successful career as a sports consultant. A man of deep faith, James found peace in his relationship with God and felt most at home when he was active and outdoors in nature. He was always on the move—whether he was hiking, riding his bike, working out, or hitting the open road for a trip. Alongside his love for sports and music, nothing brought him more joy than the time he spent with his family, his daughters and granddaughters, and his loyal dog, Zoey.
James is preceded in death by his loving parents, Jerry and Nancy Erwin, and his sister, Jerri Lynne Barlow. He is survived by his daughters, Afton Erwin and Ashlee Erwin Menocal; his son-in-law, Manny Menocal; his brother, Justin Erwin; his granddaughters, Amaya Newman and Avery Menocal; his former spouse, Kimberlee Jameson Vargas, and her son, Antonio Vargas; his brother-in-law, Eddie Barlow; and his nephew and niece, Blake and Brianna Barlow.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Palm Mortuary - Northwest, located at 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131.
