James “Jim” Jansen, 80, of North Las Vegas, passed away July 5, 2022 at home. Disabled by a traumatic brain injury suffered in 2004, Jim had more recently also been diagnosed with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Jo-Lynn (Jacobovitz), son Jeremy (Ariane), daughter Jennifer, sister Carol Klied, grandsons Jacob and Zachary Jansen, nieces Susan Vuotto (Joe) and Brenda Pulsinelli as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and in-law relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Violet and Gus, and his first wife, Jeanne.
Jim was born in Brooklyn, NY and spent his nearly 40-year career in telecommunication roles in multiple companies from New York Tel, AT&T, AT&T Paradyne, Premisys and Zhone Solutions. He was regarded as an expert in his field and was always willing to train and educate all who approached him for help. He served his country as an MP in the Army during the Vietnam War era.
He was a dyed-in-the-wool train guy and his Lionel train collection was a point of personal pride. While he was still able, he spent many hours enjoying them all and designing train tables for them to run on. He also was a collector of scale cars and other vehicles that, in his later years, provided him with daily happiness.
Jim was well-traveled both through his job assignments and personal travel. He loved visiting new places, trying the local food and drink, learning the culture and meeting new people. He valued his family, his friends and other special people in his life. He lived fully and he will be missed.
No local service is planned. A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date in New York. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Jim’s name to your local hospice organization.
The train is leaving the station. All aboard…
