Joaquin R. Sarabia, 87, a retired sheet metal worker, passed away Tue., Oct. 19, 2010. Born Oct. 6, 1923 in Los Angeles, CA, he was an 18 year resident of Las Vegas. A US Army veteran of WW II, Joaquin is a Purple Heart recipient and served in the 82nd Airborne Division 505th PIR Combat Paratrooper/Angel. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth and Michael; brothers, Gabino and Edward; sister, Marie Aragon; six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy and daughter and son in law, Kathleen and Ron Fortaleza. Visitation will be 4-7 PM on Tue. Oct. 26 with a Vigil Service at 6 PM at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church, 7260 W. Sahara Ave., on Wed. Oct. 27 at 10 AM with interment to follow at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1:20 PM. Joaquin was a child of God and a beloved husband and father.
