Joe was born on January 23, 1935 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to Joseph and Margaret Lathan. Joe spent his early years in Rhode Island where he met the Love of his life, Rose Lourenco. Joe and Rose were married in August of 1958 and moved to Las Vegas in 1959. Together, they adopted and raised four children, sons Joseph and Michael and daughters, Kimberly and Jeanine.
Joe was a kind and gentle soul who loved his God and his family. After moving to Las Vegas Joe worked as a valet parking attendant at the Sands Hotel for close to 30 years. In retirement he loved to work in his yard. Seemed as though his landscaping changes were never ending. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus color guard attending numerous events and competitions. Joe was also a dog lover and treated his pets more like his children. Above all, Joe loved his wife Rose. From that first time he saw her skating by at Rick’s Roller Rink in Rhode Island, through 62 years of marriage until his passing, their love for each other never wavered. The light in his blue eyes, his sense of humor, his mischievous grin and warmth of his embrace will be missed.
Joe was preceded in death by his father Joseph and his mother Margaret. He is survived by his wife Rose, his four children, Joseph, Michael, Kimberly and Jeanine, his grandchildren Hayley, Zachary, Austin and Francesca, and his great-grand daughter Kennedy.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 30th at Palm Downtown Mortuary on Main Street at 10 o’clock a.m. with the burial service to follow at 11 o’clock.
