

Judith Margaret (Cummings) Grant, age 73, passed away at a local hospital on May 19, 2014, after a courageous struggle against multiple health issues. She was born October 10, 1940, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Daniel LeRoy Cummings and Margaret (Benepe) Cummings. She graduated from Anaheim Union High School and the radiology program at Rochester St. Mary’s Hospital. In 1965, she married William J. Grant, Jr., and they had three children. In 1973, the Grant Family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Judi helped found the P.A. Diskin Elementary School PTA. She was an assistant den mother for Cub Scouts Pack 204. She also served as cheerleading coach and team mom for a variety of youth sports teams from Western Little League, Spring Valley Little League, and Southern Nevada Pop Warner Football. Judith and William helped found two local parishes, Christ the King Catholic Community, and St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Roman Catholic Church. At St. Joseph, she also served as co-chair for the Women of St. Joseph, a service group, and taught in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine program. In 1989, she retired from Desert Springs Hospital, where she was an EKG technician. Following retirement, she worked part-time for Clark County Social Services, and also on the religious education staff at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. Judith was preceeded in death by her parents, Daniel and Margaret; and husband, William J. Grant, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Gregory and Christopher (Suzanne); daughter Jennifer; half-brothers James and Thomas (Kathy) Hessburg, and Daniel Cummings; and half-sister Crystal (Lisa) Cummings. A funeral mass for Judith and William will be celebrated Tuesday, May 27th, 2014, 10:00 A.M., at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Roman Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Three Square, a local charity providing food to the poor.
