In high school, Lyda’s favorite subjects were English, Reading and History. She enjoyed writing articles for the school newspaper. One of her articles won an award and it was published in a newspaper. Lyda graduated from Schenley High school. She worked at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio until retirement as a licensed practical nurse.
She was married to Gabriel Scott for 37 years until he preceded her in death. She was blessed with Gabe’s young adult son, who also preceded her in death. They had two daughters. They raised their daughters to be Godly, Christian independent women. Lyda developed a love for missions and co-created a local Concerned Christian Women’s Organization. She served in leadership in Vacation Bible School and was part of spear-heading the establishment of Christian schools in Cleveland, Ohio.
Lyda enjoyed bowling, tennis, walking, knitting, and crocheting in her younger years. In her senior years, she continued to enjoy reading daily, watching the news, mystery television programs, Christian films, painting, occasional travel to Zion National Park and attending cultural events. Playing games, coloring, and reading to her granddaughters and great granddaughters brought her immeasurable joy. Spending time with family was PRICELESS!
The most important role in her life in order of priority was to be a follower of Jesus Christ, wife, mother, grand/great grandmother, family member, friend, and nurse. No matter the number of accolades, accomplishments, and career recognitions, her primary purpose was representing Christ and sharing the Gospel with others. Many who have had the pleasure of meeting Lyda would tell you…she had a radiant smile and pleasant personality. Most importantly, she always shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with you, prayed for you and encouraged you to “Press on, in Jesus!”.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, her son-in-love, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, close friends, and multiple generations of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers:
Please honor her memory by sending a tax-deductible gift in Lyda’s honor to United States Foundation for the Children of Haiti (USFCH). She has prayed and supported this ministry for many years. USFCH focuses on the needs of high-quality education and health for the Haitian children and young adults that come into their care. Lyda has known and encouraged Gladys Thomas, CEO, since she was a young lady coming to the States from Haiti to become a nurse and returned to her homeland to serve.
