
MABEL O. (Powell) HOWARD passed away March 12, 2011 in Las Vegas. NV. She was 95. Born January 21, 1916 Mrs. Howard, a Native Texan exhibited a vibrant appreciation of nature and loved being outdoors. Well into her 80's Mrs. Howard, along with her husband maintained 2 acres of land in Farmersville, California growing and canning their own food prior to relocating to Las Vegas. She enjoyed sight seeing and travel in her later years. Mabel, a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother completed her most recent excursion in September 2010 at the age of 94; a seven week road trip from Nevada to Maine with her Daughter, Grand Daughter and their husbands. Mrs. Howard was a gifted seamstress of the depression era who took great measures to preserve our natural resources, reuse and recycle. Her life experience was not of the 'disposable' mind set. She was a Home Maker who sacrificed to support the war effort in WWII and taught her children and Grandchildren by example to conserve. Mabel is survived by her daughter, Charlene Draper Hunter, Grandchildren; Russell Joe Turley, Julie Michelle Duesterbeck, Micheal Wayne Turley, Ralph Bradford Draper, Sandra Kay Barcus and Kelli Draper Wolf, 9 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, E.W. 'Dode' Howard and her daughter, Shirley Lorene Turley. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM to 2:00PM on Thursday March 17, 2011 at Palm Northwest Mortuary, 6701 N. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89131. (702) 464-8460.
