Marie L Ackerman

On Thursday, July 5, 2018, Marie L. Ackerman passed away at the age of 82 after a lengthy illness. Born in Argentina, Marie came to the United States at the age of 12. She quickly learned English, made many friends, excelled at school and developed into a talented pianist and artist. Upon graduation from high school, she worked for the Veterans Administration and the Jewish Federation of Camden County. A few years later, Marie married Arthur Ackerman, after which she focused on raising their two children.

An active member of the Jewish community, Marie emphasized the importance of education, perseverance and doing one’s best. She always strived to ensure that her children would have more opportunities in life than she had. Her efforts paid off. Marie was very proud to see both her daughter and granddaughter graduate from Dartmouth College, and her daughter graduate from Harvard Law School as well.

Marie’s children Jacqueline Ackerman and Howard Ackerman and her granddaughter Torrey Barrett will remember her forever. Marie’s husband of over 40 years, Arthur Ackerman, preceded Marie in death.

A funeral service in memory of Marie took place at Palm Mortuary Northwest on July 6, 2018 at 3 p.m., with Rabbi Yocheved Mintz presiding. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to Congregation P’nai Tikvah, 1697 Black Fox Canyon Road, Henderson, Nevada 89052.
