Marie Ballas

With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Marie Ballas of Las Vegas,NV on April 26, 2026 after valiantly battling a long illness. Marie was born on November 19, 1943 in White Plains, NY to Alphonse and Grace Caputo. Besides her parents, Marie was pre-deceased in 2021 by her husband Frank “Scoopsie” of 57 years. She is survived by 3 children, Brett, Cheryl Ballas-Rottenkolber and Christine Ballas-Paccione, her sister Frances Gardner, sister-in-law Fran Murray, two son-in-laws Dan and Nick and many extended family and friends, including nieces and nephews whom she loved and was delighted by their showing of love back. Marie worked various clerical jobs following high school but her next job would be her greatest achievement- wife and mom to three children. While raising her family in Peekskill, NY, Marie gained a passion for skillful handmade creations, working for two businesses, a vendor in the New York Renaissance Fair and a vendor of Victorian crafts. She lived for the hunt of a bargain, enjoying garage sales with Scoopsie every weekend. Her next chapter came with retirement and a move to Las Vegas, NV where she would be thrilled to tell you of her celebrity encounters and displaying her glitzy jewelry everywhere she went . Over the years, Marie found pleasure in sewing, cooking, traveling, puzzles, video poker, Price is Right, and a love of animals. At the end of her journey, we know Scoopsie said… “Come on Marie….let’s go!”.

A service will be held in New York at a later date.
