Born on August 26 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Marie lived a life full of love, laughter, and a touch of mischief.
In 1955, Marie married Mike Whitney, and together they made Las Vegas their home. A longtime Vegas resident, Marie was known for her warm heart, her love of family, and her deep sense of hospitality. She was a true spitfire — full of spirit, quick wit, and fierce loyalty to those she loved. She opened her home to anyone in need, always ready with a good meal and a welcoming smile. To everyone who crossed her threshold, she made them feel like family.
Marie loved playing poker "the machines”, cooking and gathering loved ones around the table. There were no meatballs that could match hers. She also loved to tell stories about “Old Vegas” — her favorite memories of the city’s early days, the people she met and the adventures that made her life so rich and colorful. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, her stories a source of laughter and her presence a gift to all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Kim Whitney and her granddaughter, Whitney Hartley. Though we are saddened by her passing, we find comfort in knowing she is reunited with her son, Michael, her siblings, her parents and many close friends. Her kindness, strength and fiery spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved her. She truly was one of a kind.
A celebration of Marie’s life will be held at a later date in Las Vegas, where family and friends can gather to honor her memory and share stories of the woman who gave so much to so many.
