Mary Esther Dennis Walker

Esther Dennis was born August 3, 1917 on a farm near Adell, Texas, the daughter of Price and Nell (Phillips) Dennis. After her father's death she and a brother, Eugene, moved to Hall County, Texas to live at Memphis with an aunt Dora (Dennis) Phillips. Esther attended Memphis High School, afterwards worked at Aledo, and in 1935 was married to Elvis A. Vassar, the son of Albert A. Vassar and Anna Lansford. Elvis was born and brought up at Munday, Texas. He and Esther were living at Weatherford, Texas when their first child, Joann, was born in 1937. They later moved to Fresno, California where Mary Joyce was born in 1939. Doris Jean was born in 1941 when they were again living at Weatherford. Peggy Lou (Peg) and Elvis Adell (Skip) were born at Bakersfield California in 1945 and 1948 respectively.

Esther and Elvis Vassar were divorced in 1950 and toward the end of that year she was married to Hyman Harry Walker. Harry Walker was born in 1908 at Ardmore, Oklahoma where he was reared. His father was a farmer and worked in the Oklahoma oil fields. His mother, Ettie Coffee, was also from Ardmore. Harry is 5 feet, 9 inches, has brown hair and eyes an weighs 185. He is a farmer, an amateur inventor and has worked in the oil fields of California for the last thirty-five years. He has two grown children - Harold and Sylvia - by a previous marriage, and he and Esther have two sons: Hyman Harry, Jr., born April 24, 1952 and Johnny Price, born June 9, 1954. Harry and Johnny were born at Bakersfield. For many yars after their marriage Harry and Esther made their home in the country not far from Hilmar, California. They farmed and ran a dairy barn. When Esther's children, Peg and Skip, started to school they took the surname of Walker and have continued to use that name. Esther is a warm, outgoing woman, capable of being both frank and diplomatic. She is 5 feet, 6 inches, has blue eyes, a fair skin and black hair. She and Harry lived rurally on a farm outside of Turlock until 1970 when they moved to Placerville, California where they lived for several years. They moved to Pahrump, Nevada and lived there for 10 years; then moved to Antioch, California in 1984. Harry passed away in 1987. Esther remained in Antioch until 2008 when she moved to the Las Vegas area. Esther passed away on April 19, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Memorial Service to be held April 30, 2010 at 9:00am at Dan Scales Funeral Home, 107 W. 8th Street, Pittsburg, California 94565 T (925) 439-5922. Her final resting place will be at Oak View Memorial Park in Antioch, California.
