

Melvin Alston Sr. known to some as “Sonny” was born on March 31, 1942 in Darnell, Louisiana, to Clyde E. Alston Sr. (deceased) and Mattie Mae Alston, who is also deceased. He departed his life on January 11, 2016. Melvin Alston graduated from Magnolia High School in 1960. He met the love of his life, Silve Hale, after high school and they later married on December 25, 1966. Shortly after, they moved to Las Vegas. Melvin went to Germany to serve his country in the United States Army in 1967. During this time, back in Las Vegas, Silve gave birth to their first child, Cassandra in 1968. In 1973, he was honorably discharged as a sergeant. They both later moved to Michigan where he worked for General Motors at Chevrolet metal fab for 33 years. During this time they were blessed with 2 sons, Melvin Jr. and Mychal. Melvin retired from General Motors in 2000. He and his family then moved back to Las Vegas where he worked for his son, Melvin Jr., at Nth degree and later retired. Melvin Alston Sr. leaves to mourn a very loving, caring wife of 49 years, Silve Lane Alston and 3 children; Cassandra Alston (Tony), Melvin Alston Jr. (Tanisha), and Mychal Alston (Angela). Melvin also leaves behind 7 grandchildren; Kayla, Kiara, Myles, Channing, Zavier, Kingston, and Ayoumi. He also leaves to mourn his siblings; Clyde Alston Jr. (Eloise), Geneva Thompson (Johnny), Vera Fletcher Lewis (Nate). Siblings that preceded him in death; Morgan Alston (Myra), Marvin Alston (Patricia), Percy Alston, and Jesse Alston; along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to his oncologist Dr. H. Sanatinia at Comprehensive Cancer Center. A very special thank you goes to all the staff and caring people at Nth degree, Dr. Frank Schneider’s office, Spring Valley Library, American Girl Las Vegas store, Bath and Body Warehouse, and Complex Care Hospital of Tenaya.
