Melvin Karl Hawkins

Melvin Karl Hawkins, age 78, of North Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Melvin was born to parents Mary and William Hawkins. He was born and raised in Las Vegas and attended Westside, Madison and Kit Carson elementary schools. After elementary he attended Roy Martin Jr High School and ultimately graduated from Las Vegas High School.

While at Vegas High School Melvin joined the US Navy Reserves and after graduation he enlisted in the US Navy where he served a total of 28 years. Melvin served in both Vietnam and Gulf Wars. He retirement on September 30, 1991 he had obtained the rank of Chief Hospital Corpsman.

After his military retirement he and his family moved back to Las Vegas. Once back in Vegas he reentered the workforce and served as an OR tech at multiple medical facilities in the valley.

Melvin, leaves loved ones to mourn his passing: his wife of 54 years Vivian, his son Ahman, daughter Lakisha, 2 grandchildren Karsyn and Kaeden, son-in-law James Pitts, sister Shirley Hampton, nieces Vicky and Kimberly, great niece Kiera and a host of friends that he had made from childhood through his untimely passing on December 21, 2024.

A memorial service for Melvin will be held Friday, January 10, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Palm Mortuary - Northwest, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131. Following the memorial service will be a reception from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Palm Northwest Mortuary, 6701 N Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131.
