Ming-Shung was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1945. He graduated from the National Taiwan University in 1970,and in 1972, moved to the United States. After settling in Chicago, Ming-Shung earned two Masters degrees, one from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Engineering and another from DePaul University in Computer Science.
This led to a long and successful career with Sargent & Lundy as one of the company’s senior and most experienced structural engineers. He was integral in testing and implementing nuclear, coal and other energy power plants in the United States and across the world.
Ming-Shung retired to Las Vegas in 2015. After retirement, he traveled the world with his wife and loved going on family vacations with his grandchildren. He enjoyed cooking his family’s favorite dishes. He was happiest when taking care of his grandchildren and tending to his plants and gardening. Ming’s greatest legacy has been and will always be his devotion and selfless care to his entire family here and in Taiwan.
Ming-Shung is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wai Ching; his sons Michael (Miao), Vincent (Helen) and Matthew (Jessica); his beloved grandchildren, Victoria, Aedan, Alexander, Emrys, Isabelle, Eric and Tyler; and siblings in Taiwan.
A visitation for Ming-Shung will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Palm Mortuary - Cheyenne, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129. A reception will follow from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Palm Mortuary. A funeral will occur Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 5830 Mesa Park Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89135.
