A Celebration of Life I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. ~Maya Angelou Mittie Louise Shackleford-Powell Louise Shackleford - Powell was born on July 7, 1943 in Trenton, North Carolina, to the late Herman and Hepsie Shackleford. Louise is survived by her Children, whom she was so very dedicated to and proud of; Cheryl Polk, Reginald Powell (deceased), Greg Powell and Renee Dryden. Louise was the Business Owner of Quality Daycare for 18 years. She was a loving but firm child care provider. Louise was adamant about building character in the children that affectionately called her Grandma. Anyone that knew Louise would tell you that if you work hard you can achieve anything. She implemented this same work ethic in the minds of the children that she cared for. Louise was passionate about children long before relocating to Las Vegas, she worked for the Boys and Girls Club of Newark, New Jersey. Louise’s favorite past time was going to the casinos and shopping at the Garbage stores (Second hand stores). Louise looked forward to the many outings she shared with family, and friends. She adored these moments of quality time. Louise would say "We’ll go out and we can discuss things privately". She made sure everyone knew their worth and value to her. "Your time with her was your time". She loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed conversing with them about "LIFE"; she didn’t hold back on those conversations" even if it wasn’t what they wanted to hear". Her family and close friends knew her as a compassionate, loving and sincere person, who placed great emphasis on family togetherness, loyalty and respect for the hierarchy of the family structure. Louise was a loving person to everyone who knew her and she never bit her tongue. "If you don’t want the truth then don’t ask Louise". She leaves with precious memories: her Daughters Cheryl (Manfred), Renee (Erdley), and one son Greg(Doris). One sister, Mary Alice Davis. Nine grandchildren; Malika, Willie, Salaam, Mariah, Gregory Jr., Quan, Jetta, Tafara and Amir. Seven great- grandchildren, Two Sister-In-Laws, Edna and Pat Shackleford and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends . Preceded in death: Son, Reggie Powell, Brothers: Herman, James, Perlie, Richard, Robert, William, Daniel, Earl, Charlie, Andrew, Joe, Zeke. Sister: Thelma To Mother Louise , Our Grandmother Blessed be that special tie that binds our family together. Each one of us appreciates how you taught us to walk proud, yet be humble. We know you loved each one of us with all of your heart. We know that because you showed us your love, not just in words alone. We will continue to make you proud of us, we love you and you will remain in our hearts forever.
