Phil grew up in Denver and later served his country in both the Navy Reserves and the U.S. Army. After his service, he built a long and steady working life, first with International Paper and later with Sully-Miller, where he retired.
Phil met the love of his life, Donna, at a National Association of Accountants meeting…a moment he quickly learned involved far more excitement than he bargained for. They married in 1975 and shared forty-four years together, defined by her outgoing warmth and his quiet calm which together helped them navigate life’s turns. One of Phil’s fond memories was traveling with Donna to see a Notre Dame football game, a longtime dream for a devoted fan.
Those who knew Phil understood his quiet humor, sharp wit, appreciation for life’s absurdities, and deep intellectual curiosity. He enjoyed reading, watching sports, and talking with family. His support for the people he loved never wavered, whether he was showing up as a sports dad (it takes a special person to volunteer to coach soccer without knowing a single rule of the game), band dad (he didn’t understand how much free time he’d be signing away), or a steady presence for his kids as they grew up and scattered across the country.
Phil was predeceased by his wife, Donna. He is survived by his children Antoinette (Vince) and PJ; his grandchildren Todd and Traci; five great-grandchildren—Hannah, Jazmyn, Angela, Novaleigh, and Anthony; and his sisters Helen and Anne (Tom). In his later years, Phil lived in Las Vegas, where he enjoyed time with family and familiar routines. He also spent several meaningful months living with his daughter Antoinette, whose care and presence brought him comfort. He most recently resided in Oakland, California.
Phil will be remembered with love for his gentleness, his steady presence, and the way he approached life with quiet strength, paired with a humor that often included himself as the punchline. His family will miss him deeply.
Phil will be laid to rest in the Heritage Lawn section at Palm Northwest Cemetery, 6701 North Jones Blvd., Las Vegas.
