We gather to honor and remember the life of Phillip Coleman Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, at the age of 84.
Phillip Coleman Sr. was born on July 3, 1940 in Mound, Louisiana to Blanchie and Nathaniel Coleman. After Phillip earned his diploma from Thomastown High School in 1959, he ventured out west to Las Vegas, NV where he met his wife, Jane Coleman, and built a long, proud career working as a Sous Chef at the Sahara Hotel, where he served with dedication and pride until his retirement. He was a man who believed in doing every task with excellence no shortcuts, no excuses. Whether preparing meals for thousands or cooking for his family at home, he brought the same care and craftsmanship to everything he touched. His stories from the kitchen were endless and filled with laughter, and he never missed a chance to pass down a favorite recipe.
In 2011, Phillip and Jane joined Second Baptist Church, where they found spiritual growth, fellowship, and a sense of community. Phillip lived his faith not through show, but through action by being present, helping others, and loving generously. Whether it was sharing a home-cooked meal, offering a ride, or quietly meeting someone’s need behind the scenes, he lived out what it meant to serve with humility and grace.
Phillip will be remembered for his unapologetic sense of humor. He had a stubborn streak that often came with a grin, and he could hold his own in any conversation, especially when he was trying to prove a point. He had a way of making people laugh with his timing, his delivery, and that unmistakable look that let you know he was about to say something unforgettable. His humor was one of a kind and left a lasting impression on everyone around him.
He was the one you called when something needed fixed, when advice was needed, or when things got tough. He didn’t make excuses, and he didn’t ask for recognition. He believed in showing up, doing what needed to be done, and handling his role as a father, husband, and man with no shortcuts. He is survived by his wife, Jane Coleman and his children: Lakeshia Coleman, Antonio Coleman & Tina, Cornelius & Alicia Coleman, Lana & Mack Wiggins, Phillip Coleman Jr., Jason Coleman, Anthony Coleman, Demetrius Coleman-Hunter, Sabrina Coleman, Cassandra Coleman, Tyrone Williams, Vonda Coleman, Yolanda Williams, Sharon Williams, Tywana Williams, Fred Williams, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Blanchie & Nathaniel Coleman, and all siblings; Esther Dunlap, Naomi Green, Rachel Smith, Nathaniel Coleman Jr., Helen Reed, John Otis Coleman, Timothy Coleman, Dorothy Davis, and Ruth.
Although Phillip Coleman Sr. has departed from this life, his presence lives on in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved him. His voice, his laughter, and his spirit will continue to echo in the lives he touched. While we mourn his absence, we find comfort in knowing he now rests in God’s eternal care, no longer burdened by this world, but at peace, surrounded by everlasting light.
