Richard E. Mix, 62, was born January 10, 1951 in Leavenworth, Indiana and passed away suddenly in Las Vegas, NV on June 13, 2013. Although Richard was born in Indiana, he grew up in Los Angeles, CA and considered it his beloved home-town. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Maurice Mix, his Mother, Kathleen (Stroud) Mix, and his first wife, the mother of his children, Jane (Newton) Mix. He is survived by his wife, Mindy (Young) Mix, son Jason Mix, daughters Kathleen Asher and Samantha Jones. He also lovingly included in his immediate family, sons-in-law, Randy Jones, and John Asher, and daughter-in-law Michaele (Tavares) Mix. He was also blessed to have three beautiful and much-loved grandchildren, J.J. Asher, Elliott Jones and Rachel Jones.
Richard graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in finance and was a musical prodigy as well, having worked at SIR Studios and A&M Records in Los Angeles as a teenager and young adult. He had a productive career as an executive with Marriott Corporation, Sizzler Corporation and in the financial realm of numerous automotive dealerships in southern Indiana and the Louisville, KY market.
Richard and Mindy relocated to Las Vegas, NV in 2010 and quickly and happily called it home. Richard found employment with Kodak/Qualex as a Photographer, fulfilling a life-long passion for this art, which he had pursued privately throughout his lifetime, having had numerous photos published by the International Library of Photography, as well as professionally through an earlier business venture, Spitting Images Photography.
Richard was a witty, insightful, gentle spirit, yet strong soul, who always put the interests of his loved ones first. His passing was sudden, unexpected and incomprehensible to the many people who loved and respected him throughout the country. There were few who met Richard Mix who didn’t immediately recognize that they were engaging with a very special, exceptional man.
A family celebration of Richard’s life will follow later this summer in southern Indiana, preceded by private celebration in Las Vegas, NV of the many friends and associates he accumulated during his short stay in this city.
All will remember and grieve for the loss of a fine man who truly made this earth a better place for his having been here.
Arrangements under the direction of Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
