Rodney Lynn Heriford

Rodney L. Heriford of Las Vegas, NV passed away on May 30, 2025 as an inpatient at Nathan Adelson Hospice after a battle with Dementia/Alzheimer's and other medical conditions. Rod was born on 07/20/1945 in Beaver, Oklahoma and lived his younger life with his parents and brothers in Liberal, Kansas where he graduated from Liberal High School.

He moved to Colorado and was the Deputy Sheriff and Undersheriff of the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office where he played an important role in the capture of suspects regarding a bank robbery and kidnapping that started in Louisiana.

After he moved to Las Vegas Nevada he began working as a Security Officer and Sergeant at O'Shea's Casino and the Flamingo Hilton. He also worked part time as a Death Investigator for the Clark County Coroner/Medical Examiner's Office and in December 1996, became a full time Death Investigator. During his career as a Death Investigator, he handled the case of Ted Binion and the death of 5 teens in a work crew who were struck by an impaired driver on Interstate 15.

Rod was preceded in death by his father Philip J "Moon" in 1994, his mother Olive Rowena in 2008 and his brother Roger in 2002. Rod is survived by his wife Karen and his brother, Philip Ray Heriford of Wichita, Kansas. He is also survived by his three children, Darin Heriford, Lila (John) Sprenger, Christian Heriford, and one stepdaughter Kimberly Dillion all of Las Vegas. He is also survived by four grandchildren Bob, Hannah, Ted and Rachel, three nieces and one nephew and one great grandson.

On Valentines Day 1998 Rod and Karen were married in a simple ceremony at their home during an El Nino rain with family and friends present. They enjoyed traveling together, mostly on cruises as part of High Seas Rallies. Rod and Karen joined the Harley-Davidson Owners Las Vegas Chapter in 2003, and he was Road Captain from 2005-2018 when his memory started to fail him.

Rod will be interned at Palm Mortuary Northwest and a Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a later date.
